Carbon Offset & Sustainability

At LandSheriffs we take our environmental responsibility very seriously and starting in 2009 we will be offsetting our Carbon Footprint, incorporating a sustainability factor, with an African Church Community project. LandSheriffs employ a diverse and multinational workforce from countries all around the world, one of these being Kenya, and this is where we decided to invest in our long term initiatives.

LandSheriffs have contacted a community group, run by the local church, in the Nakuru area of Kenya which works with unemployed young people. Representatives from LandSheriffs have met with the leaders of the non-profit group and have committed to fund and help set up a tree planting programme, thus creating much needed work for the locals in planting and maintaining the young trees.

We are proud to be assisting this local church movement which is dedicated to helping young people, whilst offsetting our carbon footprint. Rather than the traditional Carbon Offset programs that just purchase trees, LandSheriffs have created this two point plan.

1. Sustainability - We invest in the local area by teaming up and funding a non-profit community group who then create jobs for local people to plant and care for the trees. All members of the work force are hired locally and tools and supplies are sourced locally, where possible.

2. Carbon Offset - Trees are locally sourced, where possible, are selected from native varieties and a diverse selection is planted to encourage biodiversity. Care is taken not to displace or have any impact on local farmers. These trees help improve a region that has been ravaged by deforestation and in places the total decimation of woodlands.

LandSheriffs have committed to plant over 1700 trees per year on privately owned land which is protected from damage. This will offset our annual carbon footprint and will make LandSheriffs 100% Carbon Neutral, we will still continue to look for ways to improve our efficiency further and enhance our working practices, equipment and vehicles to further reduce our total carbon output.

Its only a small step when viewed on a global scale, but one we honestly believe is in the right direction for many social and environmental reasons.
